What is the HBCU scholars program?
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are known for being stellar institutions with long histories of academic excellence, intellectual rigor, cultural dexterity, societal impact, and for producing generations of influential leaders. The Wellington HBCU Scholars Program consists of a merit-based scholarship award granted annually to students. Our scholarship awardees will be eligible for up to two internship opportunities following their sophomore and junior year.
The multi-pronged Wellington HBCU Scholars Program will consist of
- Up to a $15,000 renewable annual merit-based scholarship which, will be applied to junior- and senior-year tuition
- Up to two paid summer internships after the scholar’s sophomore and junior years commencing in June 2025
- Opportunities to participate in campus events, student case competitions, peer mentoring, and sponsorship with a Wellington leader
The Wellington HBCU Scholars Program is open to full-time students who are sophomores and/or juniors majoring in business, economics, finance, accounting, technology, liberal arts, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs. Wellington HBCU scholars are also eligible for the firm’s student housing stipend to help offset the costs of travel and room and board during their internship.
Once applications are reviewed, selected students will be scheduled for an internship interview with a hiring manager and their respective team. Interviews will commence first week of November 2024 and awards will be announced by mid-November 2024.
Our paid internship opportunities are available across many areas of the firm, with placements determined by business needs and candidate suitability. Potential internship areas include:

who can apply?
The Wellington Scholars Program is open to full-time HBCU students who are sophomores and/or juniors majoring in business, finance, accounting, liberal arts, technology, and STEM programs.
Scholarship eligibility
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program offered by an accredited HBCU
- Overall GPA of 3.25 and meets academic progress standards as defined by the college or university
- A US legal resident, citizen, or eligible noncitizen under Federal Title IV regulations
- Earns a return offer following the 10-week summer internship
How to apply
The 2025 Wellington HBCU Scholars Program application will be open from August 26, 2024 to September 27, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. Please note that late submissions and/or incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
What to expect
- Four weeks after the application deadline, selected students will be contacted to schedule virtual interviews with hiring managers and their respective team.
- Final decisions will be communicated both verbally and in writing approximately two weeks after interviews.

Yes, the scholarship is renewable for a one-year period as long as the scholar continues to meet the Wellington HBCU Scholars Program eligibility and be in good standing at the university.
Yes, scholars can appeal to the Wellington HBCU Scholars Program Steering Committee directly in writing should the scholar be faced with an unexpected extenuating circumstance.
Yes, the Wellington HBCU Scholars summer internships are paid and are competitive.
Juniors who apply in the fall of 2024 and are selected will complete one summer internship in the summer of 2025 prior to their senior academic year.
While scholars are responsible for securing their own accommodations to best suits their needs, the firm provides a generous housing stipend and extensive information on local short-term rental options.
The scholarship covers tuition-related expenses including any applicable fees and will be applied directly to your tuition at your enrolled institution.
Students receiving full-tuition funding are eligible to apply for the Wellington HBCU Scholars Program.
The internship will be in-person at one of Wellington’s US locations. The location of the internship will be communicated in the offer letter.
