London, UK, 17 October 2018 — Wellington Management announced today the launch of the Wellington FinTech Fund (“the Fund”). The UCITS-compliant Fund seeks long-term total returns by investing primarily in companies globally that leverage technology to deliver the next generation of financial services.
Lead portfolio manager Bruce Glazer, who has 25 years of investment experience in technology, will work closely with Wellington’s highly-tenured finance investing team. They are supported by specialists with experience in the three areas of investment for the Fund: payments, investment and lending, and financial infrastructure. The team leverages Wellington’s global resources and access to companies to gain distinctive investment insights.
With consumer demand, technological development and corporate appetite for fintech driving the performance of a host of tech-enabled firms, the Fund will use fundamental analysis and active stock selection to build a portfolio of companies which the investment manager believes have attractive business models, long-term growth potential and management expertise.
Bruce Glazer, portfolio manager of the Fund, commented: “With the use of technology and data having become key drivers of success for financial companies, we see a compelling, multi-decade investment opportunity to capitalise on the value transfer from traditional financial to tech-enabled models.”
“We are pleased to be one of the first UCITS-compliant funds to address what we believe has the potential to be a long-running growth area for equity markets. As technology companies transform finance and vice-versa, our strong collaborative investment culture is well positioned to identify and build a compelling, long-term fintech portfolio for our clients today and into the future,” said Roy Smale, Director of Global Wealth Management.
