Supporting educational programs that enable communities to thrive

1389700841

The Wellington Management UK Foundation has donated money and time to nonprofits that support youth in under-resourced communities. These organizations provide them access to best-in-class educational programs and services, enhancing their chances for future success.

Wellington Management UK Foundation

The Wellington Management UK Foundation is an independent corporate foundation, funded by Wellington, as well as current and former employees, who give generously to support a portfolio of nonprofit educational organizations. The Foundation is run by its chair and a board of directors, which consists of Wellington employees and an independent director. In addition, the Foundation relies on employee volunteers each year to conduct due diligence on grant applications and build long-term relationships with the community organizations funded.

Multi-year grants

Grants are considered once a relationship is established.

Thanks to your dedicated volunteers, young people have been made more aware of new opportunities and gained the insight, information and self-belief they need to take their first steps towards making their goals a reality.”

Application process

We look for organizations that enhance academic performance, improve behavior, reduce absenteeism, and develop life skills for youth up to 26 years in under-resourced communities. Grantee organizations may use our funding as they see fit, either for programmatic or operating expenses. Eligible organizations must be operating within the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy, and/or Spain. We are interested in supporting organizations where our grants have a transformative impact on youth but are not vital to running the organization. On this basis, we focus on grassroots organizations with current income of less than £2m annually. We provide grants on an annual basis, although multi-year grants will be considered once a relationship is established. We fund newer and more established organizations. We do prefer to fund organizations that can demonstrate the strength of their management and that have a measurable track record of success.

Please note that for the near term, we will be operating an invitation only application process.

Charities that are already funded via an annual grant will need to reapply, as usual, while recipients of multi‐year grants do not need to re‐apply.

The Foundation relies on Wellington Management employees who volunteer their time and talent to conduct a thorough review of each applicant and organization we fund. Our funding cycles typically begin in April and grants are usually dispersed in September.

The Wellington Management UK Foundation accepts applications from organizations and programs for the annual grant making program that coincide with our mission and grant-making guidelines. Please read the mission and guidelines with care to evaluate whether your program is a clear fit with the Foundation’s funding priorities. Here are a few of our guidelines:

  • The charity/non-profit organization must be registered in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy, or Spain.
  • Beneficiaries of the charitable operations must reside within the UK, Germany, Switzerland or Luxembourg, Italy, or Spain.
  • The charity/non-profit program must be to provide educational services and/or life skills.
  • Beneficiaries of the program must be aged 26 and under.
  • Beneficiaries of the program must be from traditionally under-resourced or economically challenged communities.
  • The charity should be willing to allow visits from us before and after the approval process.
  • We support charities where our grants will have transformative impact on the beneficiaries and communities they support; on this basis we focus on grassroots organizations with current income of less than £2m annually.
